1930s

• Appliance was born in 1934 when Amana native, George Foerstner, challenged by a local business man, produced a reliable beverage cooler Amana began manufacturing cold storage lockers and walk-in freezers

1940s

• Commissioned by the US Government to make a walk-in cooler for military
• First to nationally market an upright freezer for the home
• First side-by-side fridge freezer for the home introduced

1950s

• First to patent the frost free refrigerator � Free-O-Frost� technology

1960s

• First commercial microwave oven was introduced

1970s

• First to introduce a complete line of energy efficiency refrigerators
• Patented the Temperature Controlled Beverage Chiller
• First to receive European 4-star freezer rating on Ice and Water models
• First American Refrigerator to be imported and sold in UK by R.E.A. Bott

1980s

2001

• Amana acquired by Maytag Corporation to join the brands of Jenn-Air, Maytag, Magic Chef, Dynasty, Hoover, Dixie-Narco, and Admiral

2002

• Amana integrated into Maytag UK
• New range of A rated refrigeration launched
• Amana introduces the Alaska Luxury Built-In Refrigeration range

2003

• Amana launched its first mixed materials (MxM) finish for refrigerators.

2005

• Amana UK introduces a totally new refrigeration platform and three design choices, Reflection, Definition & Precision.

2006

• The Amana Brand is bought and integrated with the Whirlpool Corporation forming the largest appliance group in the world.
• Amana UK introduces Wine Cabinets for the first time in the UK
• The convenient Three Door is launched to rave reviews.
